About this service

Destination Prosthetics & Out-of-Area Fittings

Many patients come to us from outside the Tampa Bay area, Orlando, Jacksonville, Miami, Atlanta, Charlotte, Birmingham, for fitting work they can’t get done locally. We’ve built our destination process around making that travel worth it.

A destination fitting consolidates what would be 4–6 separate visits into a focused 2–3 day trip. We coordinate evaluation, MEDIXA scan, fabrication scheduling, in-person fitting, and adjustments, with as much done in one block as possible. Remote follow-up adjustments can often be coordinated by phone or video, and shipping minor refit work back to the patient.

Technology & materials

Why our fittings work.

MEDIXA digital scanning is what makes destination fittings practical, a 30-second handheld scan replaces what would otherwise be plaster casting work that’s difficult to coordinate across travel. The digital file lives in our lab, so refit and replacement work can often be done without re-scanning the patient.

Common questions about destination prosthetics & out-of-area fittings.

How long do I need to be in Tampa for a destination fitting?
Typically 2–3 days for an initial visit. Some complex cases require a return visit; many do not. We’ll outline the expected schedule before you book travel.
Will my home insurance work in Florida?
Most major plans (Medicare, BCBS, United, Aetna, Cigna, Tricare) work out-of-state with appropriate pre-authorization. We handle the paperwork. Medicaid coverage typically requires the patient’s home-state Medicaid program, we’ll discuss feasibility before you travel.
Do you help with travel logistics?
We provide a list of recommended lodging near our clinic and can coordinate pickup if needed. Travel and lodging costs are the patient’s responsibility (insurance occasionally covers travel for medically-necessary out-of-area care).
What if something goes wrong with my device after I’m home?
Minor adjustments are usually doable remotely, phone walkthrough or video call. Bigger refit work can sometimes be done by mail (you send the device, we adjust and ship back). For significant problems we’ll arrange a return visit.
