About this service

Silicone Restorations

Silicone restoration is the most patient-driven part of prosthetics. The goal isn’t mechanical function, it’s appearance, comfort, and the freedom of not being looked at twice. For many patients, that’s the difference between feeling whole and feeling marked.

We custom-fabricate each silicone prosthesis to match the patient’s natural skin tone, with hand-painted shading, veining, freckling, and translucent edges. Each device is a portrait, not a product. Wear-life is typically 2–5 years depending on use and care.

Silicone restorations work standalone (passive) or paired with body-powered or myoelectric componentry as a cosmetic overglove. We’ll talk through what fits your daily life, some patients want one for special occasions, others want full-time everyday wear.

The craft

The artistry is in the detail.

Look closely at one of our restorations and you’ll see veining, freckling, sun-line variations, and the soft translucency of real skin, all painted by hand, layer by layer, over the silicone base. We work in medical-grade platinum-cure silicones for color stability, skin compatibility, and longevity.

The digital scan locates the geometry. The artistry happens afterward.

Frequently asked

Common questions about silicone restorations.

How long does a silicone restoration last?
Typically 2–5 years of daily wear, longer for occasional-wear pieces. Color stability and surface quality degrade gradually; we offer annual touch-up service to extend usable life.
Can I wash my hands and shower while wearing it?
Yes, medical-grade silicone is waterproof and skin-safe. Daily care involves rinsing with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals, prolonged solvent exposure, and direct flame.
Will insurance cover silicone restoration?
Coverage varies. Some plans cover cosmetic prostheses as part of overall amputation care; others classify them as cosmetic and decline. We’ll verify your benefits and discuss self-pay options if needed.
Can the silicone prosthesis function with my existing myoelectric hand?
Yes. Silicone gloves are commonly fit over myoelectric componentry as a cosmetic finish. Fit clearance and color matching are coordinated with the underlying device.
